FAQ

General

  1. Hit the eject button to load music, podcasts, or audiobooks. Use the + button to add entire artists, albums, or playlists. Then hit the Done button.
  2. When you are ready to start a walk or run, hit the Play button to start Walk Mode. You will see the play button and the tape cover glow to let you know you are in Walk Mode.
  3. Lock your iPhone, place it in your pocket, and start walking! The audio you chose should start playing within 10 steps. If it doesn't, check the next question for common issues.
  4. If you want the app to stop playing music at any time, you can hit the Stop button in the app to end Walk Mode.
  5. Music will continue to play as long as you keep walking. If you stop, the music stops, but if you start walking again it should start playing again, as long as you continue walking before the Background Pause Timeout expires. You can adjust the Background Pause Timeout in Settings.

Here are some things to check if the music is not playing as expected:

  1. Make sure you hit the Play button to enable Walk Mode first. The play button should be lit up if you want the music to play when you walk.
  2. Make sure that you have audio loaded. The name of the currently loaded song/artist should appear on the tape.
  3. Make sure that your iPhone is properly detecting that you are walking. The button in the top right should show an icon with a person walking, not standing still. Otherwise your walking isn't being detected. Walking is detected more consistently if your iPhone is in your pocket when you walk.
  4. If you have "Only Play When Headphones Connected" enabled in Settings, make sure your headphones are connected.
  5. Check if the same music plays properly in the Music app (or podcasts in the Podcasts app or audiobooks in the Books app). There may be an issue with the music not being able to play such as a poor internet connection if the music is streaming.
  6. If you wait too long to start walking after backgrounding the app or locking your iPhone, the Background Pause Timeout may have expired and music will not play. You will need to start the app and hit the Play button again to restart Walk Mode. You can adjust the Background Pause Timeout in the Settings screen if you want the app to wait longer to detect walking. The Background Pause timer also starts when you stop walking, so as long as you start walking again before it expires, music should continue playing again.
